Jao is perfectly situated on a beautiful island within the Jao Concession of the Okavango Delta and offers both land and water-based safari activities. Take a traditional mokoro safari along the waterways of the Delta and witness the wildlife from this most natural of settings or accompany your ranger on an exhilarating game drive into the bush.

 

The wetlands are home to large herds of red lechwe, which attracted predators such as lion and leopard in large numbers, giving way to spectacular game viewing. The area is also considered by the international birding community as one of the world’s important birding areas.

Jao is a small camp of just seven tents consisting of either twin or king size beds with swathed in mosquito netting and sumptuous soft furnishings and hand-crafted fittings.  The en-suite facilities include both indoor and outdoor showers, baths, double vanities and separate w.c. Two ultra-luxurious family tents include two bedrooms and separate en-suite facilities.

 

Your own private wooden deck includes breathtaking views of the Delta, a plunge pool and a sala for relaxing during the daytime. At night you can choose to sleep under the stars to get a really feel of staying in the African wilderness.

The facilities on offer at Jao include a flooding fire deck with stunning views of the floodplain, ideal for pre-dinner drinks and a catch-up with your fellow guests.  Meals are taken in the dining room, private dining decks or in the traditional boma under the stars.

 

Guests can make use of the well-equipped gym, spa facilities, lodge pool and library. A comprehensive wine cellar is also among the offerings at this lodge.

The Okavango Delta offers guests an opportunity to explore the wild bush of Africa in the experienced hands of highly qualified guides.  Game drives are conducted in the morning and early evening when the predators are active in purpose built open game drive vehicles.  We highly recommend you accompany your guide on a bush walk, your guide will point out animal tracks along with the unique plant life of the Okavango Delta.

 

The perfect way to explore the Delta is by traditional mokoro, your guide with gently steer you through this stunning setting pointing out all the wildlife along the way, or simply meander through the Delta in a purpose built motor boat enjoying the magically scenery as you go.
